TVAS Reading: Excavations at Dedworth Road, Windsor
TVAS Reading: Excavations at Dedworth Road, Windsor
Between March and October 2025, TVAS Reading uncovered Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age and Middle-Late Saxon archaeological features.

As part of the planning process, a developer needs to assess the impact the project may have on various topics, including archaeology, and how to minimise these. Before a site goes to excavation a number of assesments were carried out including a desk-based and trial trenching, both of which confirmed the arcaheological potential of the site and thus requiring an excavation.

Bronze Age
The Bronze Age compenent of site consisted of a field system, roundhouse, cremation cemetery and a widespread scattering of pits and postholes.

Iron Age
A single ring gully roundhouse was the only Iron Age activity on the site.

Saxon
A post in trench timber building that was set within a double ditch, segmented, enclosure and likely associated pits and well or watrerhole formed the main components of the Saxon period.

Finds
The finds are still being processed but below is a selection of finds that have been cleaned so far.

With the excavations concluded the post excavation process is well under way with a full report to be published in the future.
